Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum, or “ju hua,” as it’s known in Chinese, was first cultivated in China as a flowering herb in the 15th century BC, and has since been a staple in Chinese medicine and beauty products.  The tea has been used to remedy respiratory problems and high blood pressure, while others celebrate it for its soothing effect on the body and ability to reduce inflammation.

To this date, chrysanthemum is the city flower of Beijing and Kaifeng. Every year, from October 18th to November 18th, the city of Kaifeng celebrates the China Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Cultural Festival, the largest chrysanthemum festival in China.
